RHYL YOUTH ACTION GROUP

Welcome to Rhyl Youth Action Group

RYAG is a young peoples organisation in Rhyl, North Wales. Providing programmes, services and activities for young people which are developed and implemented based on the needs of those involved.

ABOUT RAPP

Rhyl Alcohol Prevention Project (RAPP), established in 2009, offers tailor-made programmes for 11 to 17-year-olds who are at high risk of involvement in alcohol use.
RAPP target young people in a neighbourhood who are considered to be most at risk of alcohol abuse. The project operates across the whole of Rhyl.
RAPP aim to reduce alcohol intake in youths and prevent crime and anti-social behaviour in the neighbourhoods in which they work. Young people on the RAPP are identified through a number of different agencies, including the YOT, police, children and family services, local education authorities or schools, neighbourhood wardens and anti-social behaviour teams.
The project gives young people somewhere safe to go were they can learn new skills, take part in activities with others and get support with their education and careers guidance. Positive role models – the workers and volunteers– help to change young people's attitudes to drinking, crime and anti-social behaviour, and address those factors that put young people at risk of involvement in alcohol abuse.

RAPP’s target is to reduce the number of negative issues which turn young people towards alcohol abuse in the Rhyl area. To do so, RAPP has the following aims:

  • to engage with a high proportion of the group, especially those members deemed most at risk within the group.
  • to address the risk factors and enhance the protective factors, as identified by assessments, for the young people with whom it is working
  • to increase access for engaged young people to mainstream and specialist services, especially in relation to education, training and employment
  • to reduce drinking of young people
  • to intervene, not just on an individual level, but with communities and families (especially the parents of the group).

Funding
RAPP is funded by Comic Relief UK grants, and this funding is supplemented by sharing resources with other local agencies. In many areas, projects also obtain resources from other fundiers, which share our aim of reducing drinking, and the associated negative incidents it attracts and supporting communities.
