YOUTH CAFE
Youth Café is facility for young people aged 10 - 17 years where they are free to socialise with friends, meet new people and get involved in training or other events.
The facility is run to provide a safe place for young people to meet in the evening as an alternative to gathering on the streets.
There are also parties and theme nights such as meet your assembly member, NSPCC, Childrens Commissioner for Wales, poetry, Girls night, training nights and ongoing signposting to other youth groups.
The members of the group also operate a be-friending scheme where young people that are new to the area can be linked with other local young people and mentors.
The café has a regular attendance of around 35 young people per night who, while enjoying the environment and getting off the streets, are also participating in informal education, whether in I.T. skills, working with others or general social skills. There is also a concerted effort to build on teamwork and negotiating skills, by setting small tasks such as the visitors/members deciding on time limits and democratic rules for sharing of facilities.
